Resilience in Schools and Education

Bounce, grow, connect and create for teachers, students and parents.

Welcome to RISE: a professional development programme that will:

  • Enrich the lives of teachers
  • Lift teacher engagement
  • Increase classroom impact
  • Keep your teachers safe, well and effective
  • Help teachers “walk the talk”
  • Assess and build student resilience

Why RISE?

Our programmes offer practical, integrated and evidence-based resilience training. The resilience journey delivers proven results, is flexible and can be customised to suit your unique requirements.

Resilience underpins all 5 key competencies of the NZ School Curriculum.

Our iBounce: student resilience assessment is now available.

4 Ways to Begin your Resilience Journey

1. INTRODUCTORY  SESSIONS

Short session of 90 – 120 mins to each cluster. The objective of the keynote session is to give participants confidence and practical understanding in the basic disciplines of resilience and introduce the key concepts.

2. TEACHER
TRAINING

Includes Resilience Diagnostic and Workshops. For individual schools, we suggest a slightly longer half day session or, if possible, a whole one-day programme for teachers and support staff.

3. TEACHER  ACCREDITATION

We offer  ‘train the trainer’ programmes to help integrate Resilience into the daily culture of each school or at each cluster. The Skills developed through this training will support teachers in many aspects of their life and leadership.

4. STUDENTS &
PARENTS

Engage our team to help introduce the concept and practices of resilience to students, parents and families. Our diagnostic and online training is available to spread the language and skills of resilience across your school community.

STEP 1 – INTRODUCTORY SESSIONS

A keynote/short session of 90 – 120 mins. The objective is to give participants confidence and practical understanding in the basic disciplines of resilience.

This includes:

1. The Science and Practice of Resilience

2. Understanding how resilience fails and rapid bounce techniques

3. Mastering the calm and focused state (biofeedback exercise)

4. Sleep and success rituals (powernaps, stretching and balance)

5. Daily disciplines of sustainable success in life and leadership

6. The high EQ leader (impulse control and positivity)

7. Attention, focus and the quiet mind

Introductory sessions are an effective way for clusters, CoL / Kāhui Ako and schools to explore, catalyse, or start the resilience journey.

STEP 2 – TEACHER TRAINING

For individual schools, we suggest a half or full day programme for teachers and support staff. Where numbers of participants are large (>30), we suggest dividing the group into a series of half day workshops, run over one day or more if necessary.

We have trialled this approach in over 40 schools with great interest and uptake. In the workshop we examine the principles in greater depth and allow for group discussion and the creation of practical strategies between participants.

We strongly recommend integrating a pre and post Resilience Diagnostic with the face to face training. This is an effective way to benchmark each school in the region against the collective cluster or CoL average. This can be co-ordinated nationally with the support of NZPF.

The Resilience Diagnostic offers each participant an assessment of his or her resilience (on a secure and confidential basis). This is valuable data and enables us to tailor specific training based on the metrics.   If the school decides to take up the pre, post diagnostic with our online video training we will include a one year follow up diagnostic free of charge.

The online training is delivered via our Resilience Learning Platform called RAPT, complementing the face-to-face training. This provides access to the training 24/7 over a 12 month period. This reinforces the concepts and a discussion initiated in the workshop allows the teachers to bring the training into the classroom and assists with the induction of new teachers into the Resilience culture.

STEP 3 – TEACHER ACCREDITATION

ACCREDITATION PROGRAMMES

We offer  ‘train the trainer’ programmes to help integrate Resilience into the daily culture of each school or at each cluster.  The skills developed through this training will support teachers in many aspects of their life and leadership. Our Accredited Practitioner programme has been developed over a number of years. It is an ideal way to bring Resilience into the class room. We have included a brief overview below of what is involved in becoming a qualified and accredited practitioner.

What you receive:

1. Resilience Coach training and accreditation

2. The skills to administer and coach with our Diagnostic tools

3. Training to design and facilitate resilience training in-house

4. Certificate of accreditation and competence as a resilience coach

STEP 4 – STUDENTS, PARENTS & FAMILY

Engage our team to help introduce the concept and practices of resilience to students, parents and families. Our diagnostic and online training is available to spread the language and skills of resilience across your school community.

We are proud to announce iBounce: student resilience assessment in October 2017. This is a scaleable solution to assess and help students build their resilience in a secure online environment.  Class reporting identifies risk and helps teachers to focus on the personal skills that will support learning. We believe that every student should take this brief, 30 factor assessment on an annual basis.

  1. Build student self awareness
  2. Focus students on key practical skills
  3. Learn to play to strength and counter gaps
  4. Personal online learning tools in a safe environment
  5. Inspire students to reach their full potential through proven practices
